Advice Centre

Many of our guests ask for advice, with benefits, housing and employment. We have a team here on weekdays from 8am to assist.

We can always do with a hand, and would welcome volunteers to assist.

Advice Centre volunteering needs to be a team of 1 or 2 people.

The Advice Centre exists to inform and enable homeless and other vulnerable people. The Centre delivers open access in an accessible and safe environment. The Centre is led by the needs of learners, and aims to respond to the aspirations and desires of the Centre users. This is done by providing learning in the broadest sense, promoting supportive relationships, emotional literacy, basic skills and life skills.

Volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers to assist us as we support, encourage and assist homeless people, to improve their life chances, by equipping them with skills to sustain tenancies, employment and integration into the wider community.

Our Advice Centre opens at 8am each weekday and if you can spare a few hours to help us in sorting basic problems and trying to equip people with basic life-skills, then why not consider volunteering with us.

We take safeguarding very seriously here and cannot accept people we do not know for this volunteering opportunity. We  will not accept volunteers without appropriate checks. We will always give priority to volunteers who are a staff member of long term supporting companies and have volunteered already with us. We encourage you to volunteer in the kitchens or clothing store first, in order that we can get to know you and you us. We appriciate your desire to join our team, and make a difference, but we need to keep you and our guests safe at all times.

Please book well in advance (at least 2 weeks), so what we have an opportunity to share with you what is involved and ensure that the appropriate checks are carried out.

If you are interested in volunteering with The Whitechapel Mission, please contact our office on 03000 111 400 or view our volunteering diary.
